Position Overview:
The Creative Writer will play a pivotal role in shaping the narrative of Amazon Frontlines’ mission and work. This position is responsible for producing compelling, well-researched, and engaging written content that drives awareness, action, and support for our environmental and Indigenous rights campaigns. The Creative Writer will collaborate closely with the Communications Team to develop editorial content, including newsletters, website articles, investigative reports, and social media copy. This role requires a sharp eye for detail, strong research skills, and the ability to distill complex topics into clear, powerful storytelling.
Ideal Candidate:
- Extensive experience (5+ years) in investigative journalism, communications, fact-checking, and/or editorial work, preferably in the context of environmental, climate, and human rights issues and/or non-profit organizations.
- Exceptional writing skills in English, with the ability to craft persuasive and engaging content for various platforms and audiences.
- Proven ability to edit different types of texts with a tight deadline.
- Proven track record in conducting primary and secondary research and producing high-quality investigative projects.
- Strong understanding and proven record of social media platforms and experience creating content in various web and social media formats.
- Proficiency in editing and proofreading English texts to ensure accuracy, clarity, and adherence to editorial standards.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously, meeting tight deadlines with attention to detail.
- Familiarity with environmental issues and Indigenous rights, particularly related to the Amazon region, is a plus.
- Ability to draft newsletter text with innovative, engaging and powerful content.
- Access to necessary technology and software for remote work.
- To be bilingual in English and Spanish.
Key Responsibilities:
- Special Investigation Projects:
- Develop and execute special investigative projects that uncover critical insights, trends, and challenges through research and analysis within the scope of AF’s mandate.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to gather data, conduct interviews, and produce compelling narratives about AF’s work and mission.
- Fact-Checking and Editorial Work:
- Verify the accuracy and credibility of information presented in various communications materials, including articles, reports, press releases, and social media posts.
- Provide editorial support in refining content for clarity, coherence, and alignment with organizational messaging.
- Write op-eds and opinion pieces on relevant environmental, cultural, and human rights topics for publication in English-language media outlets.
- Conduct research to produce impactful reports on various topics within Amazon Frontlines’ mandate.
- Conduct interviews with allies for audio and written material for the website.
- Content Creation for Web, Newsletter and Social Networks:
- Lead the drafting of editorial content for the newsletter and mailing list distribution regularly
- Lead the drafting and editing of social media content for AF and Ceibo Alliance.
- In coordination with the Social Media Manager, regularly generate creative, thought-provoking, and original content for the organization’s website and social media channels, focusing on raising awareness and driving engagement with issues facing the Amazon and the work of AF and our Indigenous partners.
- Engage in strategic work planning and visioning with the Communications Team and execute plans effectively and in a timely manner.
- To support the team in the draft of scripts for social media reels and videos
- Text Editing and Proofreading:
- Edit and proofread texts to be published in English, ensuring grammatical correctness, consistency, and adherence to style guidelines.
- Work closely with writers and contributors to refine their work and enhance its impact for the target audience.
- Maintain a keen eye for detail, flow, engagement, and accuracy in all written materials.
- Collaboration and Reporting:
- Collaborate with colleagues and stakeholders across different teams to align communication efforts with organizational goals and priorities.
- Provide regular updates and reports on project progress, outcomes, and challenges to the Director of Communications.
- Participate in virtual meetings and discussions to contribute expertise and insights to communication strategies.
- Participate in meetings with media outlets to assess courses of action.
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience in investigative journalism, editorial work, or content creation, preferably in environmental, climate, or human rights contexts.
- Exceptional writing skills in English, with a proven ability to craft engaging, persuasive content for various platforms and audiences.
- Experience in editing and proofreading to ensure clarity, coherence, and adherence to editorial standards.
- Strong research skills with the ability to conduct both primary and secondary research to produce high-quality content.
- Familiarity with social media platforms and experience in creating content in different digital formats.
- Knowledge of environmental issues and Indigenous rights, particularly related to the Amazon, is highly desirable.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects and work under tight deadlines.
- Proficiency in remote working tools and access to necessary technology for online collaboration.
- To be bilingual in English and Spanish.

Location of employment:
Although this position is remote, it would be desirable to be based in the Americas due to the time difference and working schedules.
