Amazon Frontlines seeks an entrepreneurial, visionary and highly experienced digital expert and leader to spearhead our digital strategy, expand audience engagement and drive innovative and impactful campaigns.
This senior role requires someone who is passionate about the Amazon and its peoples, a bilingual (English-Spanish) strategic thinker with deep expertise in digital communications who can design and implement high-impact campaigns across multiple platforms. The ideal candidate is both a thought leader and a hands-on expert, capable of setting a digital vision while also ensuring its execution.
As a senior team member, this role will drive Amazon Frontlines’ digital advocacy and engagement strategy, leveraging data-driven insights to maximize impact. The Head of Digital will set up and oversee a team responsible for content planning, digital storytelling, campaign execution, and performance tracking across all platforms, ensuring that all digital efforts align with organizational objectives.
As a key leader of our communications team, they will collaborate closely with various internal departments, including teams working on development, programs, and advocacy. The role will be pivotal in ensuring alignment on campaigns and fostering engagement through coordinated efforts with external allies and influencers.
To thrive in this role, the Head of Digital must excel in project management while maintaining a big-picture perspective across all digital channels. This includes overseeing social media platforms, newsletters, list messaging, and digital fundraising. A strategic mindset is essential for ensuring cohesive messaging and seamless content integration, while collaborating with internal teams and Indigenous partners to maximize impact.
This senior position will report directly to the Communications Director and work closely with other team leaders across development, advocacy, and programs to create cohesive digital strategies that drive action and awareness.
Ideal candidate:
The Head of Digital will be responsible for leading, shaping and executing a high-impact, data-driven digital strategy that strengthens Amazon Frontlines’ influence, expands our audience, and maximizes engagement across multiple platforms. This role requires strategic vision, leadership, effective management and technical expertise to elevate our storytelling and digital advocacy efforts to give Indigenous peoples and the Amazon a voice.
This role requires both strategic vision and hands-on execution, balancing high-level planning with on-the-ground implementation. They will work across social media, email list message outreach, digital marketing and brand strategy, and website strategy to build long-term audience growth and engagement, ensuring that all digital communications serve a larger strategic purpose.
This person will be at the core of our communications team to create digital campaigns that drive action and inspire change. They must be highly analytical, skilled in data-driven decision-making, and experienced in leveraging digital tools and trends to build momentum around advocacy, movement-building, and organizational visibility.
This role requires an adaptive and innovative mindset to anticipate trends, test new engagement strategies, and optimize content across channels. The ideal candidate will bring senior-level expertise in social media, digital advertising, audience segmentation, SEO, and new tech trends applied to storytelling—ensuring that Amazon Frontlines remains at the forefront of digital advocacy to protect the climate and Indigenous rights.
Key responsibilities:
The Head of Digital will lead these efforts by:
1. Digital Strategy & leadership
- Develop a comprehensive digital communications strategy to grow Amazon Frontlines’ audience, increase engagement, and amplify its influence.
- Align digital campaigns with key organizational goals and communications and advocacy efforts, while owning and driving digital growth strategies, including audience acquisition, list-building, and digital fundraising initiatives.
- Optimize and oversee digital content strategy, ensuring that messaging frameworks, storytelling, and campaign narratives align with key organizational goals.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure digital initiatives support fundraising, communications and programmatic goals, and movement building efforts.
- Identify and leverage new digital opportunities, trends, and emerging platforms to amplify our message and engage new audiences.
2. Leading audience growth & strategic engagement
- Engage with leading digital advocacy and tech actors to stay current on best practices and innovations, including the use of AI to optimize engagement strategies.
- Spearhead audience acquisition and retention strategies, ensuring continuous growth of engaged followers across all platforms.
- Identify and test innovative digital approaches to connect with new audiences, drive action, and convert engagement into measurable impact.
- Develop data-driven audience segmentation strategies to tailor content and campaigns for maximum reach and engagement.
- Optimize digital advertising and paid media strategies, including social media promotions, helping to initiate a Google Ads strategy, and email list-building initiatives to amplify key campaigns and messages.
3. Strategic supervision of digital content & campaigns
- Ensure all digital storytelling, campaigns and communication tactics serve a larger and strategic purpose, enhancing and strengthening the AF brand.
- Support the development team to establish and lead a digital campaign framework \to achieve fundraising goals set by the development team.
- Work closely with program and advocacy teams to translate complex issues into compelling, accessible, and action-driven digital content.
- Work with the campaigns team members to ensure that each campaign has a clear audience strategy, engagement funnel, and measurable impact metrics.
- Direct and oversee collaborations with influencers, content creators, and allied organizations to expand digital reach and impact.
4. Driving data-driven decision making
- Educate and engage senior leaders in the design, development and execution of a decision making culture of data-based decision making for AF’s digital strategy.
- Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for digital engagement, reach, and impact.
- Conduct regular performance audits across platforms to assess effectiveness and recommend data-driven optimizations.
- Implement A/B testing, audience analysis, and conversion tracking to improve engagement and mobilization strategies.
- Ensure all digital campaigns and content strategies are adaptive, flexible, and continuously optimized based on analytics and insights.
5. Positioning AF into an impactful actor in the digital sphere
- Keep Amazon Frontlines at the forefront of digital advocacy trends, experimenting with new storytelling formats, platform features, and engagement techniques.
- Identify emerging digital opportunities that can enhance movement-building efforts, from live-streamed events to interactive storytelling.
- Guide the adoption of cutting-edge digital tools to improve workflow efficiency, automation, and content impact.
- Track performance of communications initiatives and campaigns across all digital platforms, including monitoring social media metrics and KPIs, delivering actionable insights and recommendations for audience growth and engagement.
- Provide regular performance reports, highlighting key trends and strategic adjustments to position AF as a leading digital actor.

Qualifications & experience
- The ideal candidate for the Digital Strategist Communications Manager role is a visionary leader and hands-on expert in digital communications with a strong background in strategic planning, audience engagement, and data-driven decision-making.
- They should be a big-picture thinker who can design and execute high-impact digital strategies while also possessing the technical skills to optimize campaigns, analyze performance, and drive measurable impact.

Required:
- 10+ years of experience in digital communications & marketing, or social media strategy, with a strong focus on engagement, community-building, and storytelling. At least 3-5 years of experience should be in a leadership or senior strategist role.
- Proven track record of developing and executing successful digital strategies that have led to audience growth, engagement, and measurable impact (preferably within advocacy, nonprofit, or mission-driven organizations).
- Expertise in multi-channel digital campaigns, content marketing, and audience engagement strategies, with experience integrating social media, email marketing, digital advertising, and web content into a cohesive strategy.
- Deep knowledge of social media algorithms, platform trends, and digital best practices—from organic audience growth strategies to paid media optimization.
- Experience in leveraging digital platforms—including Instagram, YouTube, Facebook, LinkedIn, and TikTok—to tell compelling stories, mobilize supporters, and drive action to protect the Amazon rainforest and Indigenous rights.
- Strong analytical skills and a data-driven approach—must be comfortable interpreting metrics, conducting A/B testing, audience segmentation, and optimizing digital performance using tools like Google Analytics, Meta Business Suite, and email marketing platforms.
- Experience in paid media strategy, including social media ads, Google Ads, and other digital advertising platforms to support audience acquisition and engagement goals.
- Proven ability to craft compelling narratives and digital storytelling strategies that mobilize audiences and translate complex environmental and human rights issues into accessible, engaging content.
- Exceptional writing and editing skills in both English and Spanish, with the ability to adapt messaging for different audiences and platforms.
- Proven ability to work cross-functionally and lead collaborations across teams, ensuring digital strategy aligns with advocacy, fundraising, and programmatic priorities.
- Experience leading digital community-building efforts, partnerships with influencers, and collaborative digital advocacy campaigns.
- Leadership and project management skills—ability to drive multiple initiatives, set priorities, and work under tight deadlines in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.
- Courteous and joie de vivre approach, ability to identify tensions and address them with emotional intelligence and respect.
- Passion for environmental and Indigenous rights issues, with a commitment to Amazon Frontlines’ mission of defending the Amazon and securing Indigenous stewardship of the rainforest.

- Experience in movement-building, digital advocacy, or grassroots mobilization strategies.

Location: Although the employment is remote, it should be based in the Americas due to the time difference and working schedules.
