Land Back FOR THE SIEKOPAI
JOIN THE SIEKOPAI NATION IN THEIR BATTLE TO RECLAIM STOLEN SACRED LANDS
In the heart of the Amazon rainforest, the Siekopai Nation is fighting to recover more than a half-million acres of land that were stolen from their ancestors over centuries of conquest.
Their battle starts in Pëkëya, the birthplace and spiritual center of the Siekopai people. This territory of flooded forests and black lagoons is home to some of the most biodiverse ecosystems on the planet. Yet over eighty years ago, the Siekopai were forcibly displaced from their territory by war between Peru and Ecuador.
Now, the Siekopai are taking their battle to get their land back to the courts, challenging the Ecuadorian government in a watershed legal fight that could set precedent for Indigenous communities across the Upper Amazon. The survival of the Siekopai nation depends on the outcome of their case. On May 30th, a hearing was held on Siekopai territory – we are now awaiting a verdict from the judges.
Help show the provincial judges reviewing the Siekopai’s case that the world is united in demanding justice and #landback for the Siekopai!
